WORKING WITH HAND TOOLS
For the last 3 years I have been looking at hand tools and our relationship with them. This has included : grip tools, spanners, and hammers. The beauty of hand tools is not what they allow you to do, but the unforeseen possibilities that they can suggest.
Many of the tools presented here were found in car boot sales and skips. Some of them are mysterious to me, as I have no idea what they were actually used for. I am aware that the knowledge and skills needed to use these tools are dying, as we rely more and more on manufactured goods.
I am interested in the way we use of hand tools to make a living. These are the tools I have used in my trade. My art work is concerned with making plaster portraits of tools, and examining their place in our history and culture.
My work is grouped as follows : Hammers, Cycle Spanners, Grip Tools, Shears, Measuring Instruments.
